Actors read stories aloud to your students!
- To use the site you simply choose a storyline from the menu, click “let’s read it”, choose your screen size, and select the Internet connection speed. Your chosen story and actor will appear on the screen, introduce the book and illustrator, and begin to read. As they read, the book is superimposed on your screen with subtitles and pages that turn as they go along so that you can also enjoy the beautiful illustrations.
- The books include: To Be A Drum, Guji Guji, Stellaluna, Brave Irene, The Polar Express and The Night I Followed the Dog. Many other popular children’s stories are offered. A great deal of diversity is included in these choices as many include Hispanic, Asian, and African American culture.
- In addition to the stories, there are related suggested activities as well as an activity guide for use by parents and children. The activities include asking questions about the characters, plot, and setting as well as suggestions for parties or entertainment with your children’s friends.
RIF Reading Planet
Reading planet offers a variety of animated tales for students. Classics such as Cinderella and Goldilocks and The Three Bears are a part of this series. There is also a great site called Leading to Reading which features dozens of books read aloud. Eric Carle reads Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? The site also features numerous nursery rhymes and lullabies. Use the finger play session during free time or on rainy days to teach your students patty-cake and I”m a little teapot.
